Novice/Apprenticeship Program
The novice membership in ABC should last about a year while you are "getting your ducks in order" to move to the consultant level. This will allow you to enjoy full Novice Membership benefits. The best is going to as many local state meetings as you can. Many are educational, and many feature vendors that you can use as referrals for your clients. Many prospective members and novice members ask about the opportunity to work with an experienced consultant to learn the wedding industry. ABC-IL offers an informal program to help Novice members learn. Some members who are willing to share will take a novice on as an apprentice. You are not paid for your work, but the experience gained can be invaluable and is very rewarding. This is not required by ABC and not all consultants take on apprentices. It is up to each established consultant if they want to do this. In order to be included as part of the apprenticeship program, requirements have been set up as a benefit to our novice membership. By adhering to the following three things, the novice has demonstrated not only their desire to be in the wedding industry but also their professionalism and commitment to the industry.
-
Be a novice member of ABC
-
Be enrolled in either the 'Weddings as a Business' or 'Professional Development Course' or attended at least 1 annual conference
-
Be an active member of our Illinois branch of ABC. This means that the novice member must have attended at least 2 of our local state meetings
If you are a novice member and are interested in the apprenticeship program and have met the above requirements, please call or email your contact information to the Illinois State Coordinator.
Any consultant members (PBC-Professional Bridal Consultant, ABC-Accredited Bridal Consultant, and MBC-Master Bridal Consultant) who are willing to share their expertise with a novice member are also asked to contact the Illinois State Coordinator.
